The fourth-ranked Remsen St. Mary’s football team punched their ticket back to the quarterfinal round with a 42-6 win at home over CAM on Friday night.
The Hawks were bounced out of the playoffs in this round last year by the eventual state champs from Bishop Garrigan. Head coach Tim Osterman says after that disappointment, his guys were motivated to make sure that did not happen this year.
Remsen St. Mary’s ended up leading at the halftime break by a score of 36-0 thanks to some great defensive play. That play saw the Hawks pick off four passes to shut down CAM’s passing attack. Coach Osterman says those turnovers loomed large especially with it being a postseason game.
The Hawks ran the ball for 279 yards led by Landon Waldschmitt’s 134 yards and five touchdowns. Coach Osterman says it was an entire team effort on offense to run the ball successfully.
Remsen St. Mary’s is now 10-0 on the season with the win. They are back in the quarterfinal round for a matchup with a team they are familiar with in the Audubon Wheelers. Coach Osterman says the Wheelers will bring a great fight to Remsen on Thursday night.
Kickoff will be at 7:00 PM on Thursday night. KLEM will broadcast the game live with coverage beginning at 6:30 PM.
