The Le Mars Community boys basketball team took their sixth single-digit margin loss of the year falling 58-55 to Sioux City North on Tuesday.
Le Mars’ start to the game was sparked by a big night from Jackson Wells. He had nine quick points to start the game as part of a 15-4 start for the Bulldogs. Coach Dyhrkopp says he was being really deceptive with the ball making him tough to guard.
Wells finished with 20 points, but the Bulldogs could never find the knockout punch. North went on an 18-0 run that gave them the lead, Le Mars brought it back in their favor, but North hung around and took the win anyway. Coach Dyhrkopp says if you let a team stick around too long, it comes back to bite you.
Le Mars’ next test is against the top-ranked team in Class 2A when Western Christian comes to town on Thursday. Coach Dyhrkopp says the guys need to stay focused because you never know when the night will be when things all get going the right way.
The Bulldogs drop to 4-12 on the season and 3-9 in the MRAC.
