Akron-Westfield boys basketball suffers district tournament loss to Gehlen Catholic

The Akron-Westfield boys basketball team had their season come to an end in their district quarterfinal matchup. The Westerners fell to Gehlen Catholic by a score of 56-37 in Le Mars on Monday night.

Akron-Westfield did a lot of good things offensively in the first quarter. Unfortunately, their defense did not measure up, and first-year head coach Steven Husk says they were trying to chase those good things the rest of the game.

The Westerners graduate a class of six seniors who had to help with the transition between coaches this season. Coach Husk says he will be forever grateful to them for helping make that transition easy.

The excitement is certainly there for what Akron-Westfield can be in the future now that everyone has a year together under their belt. Coach Husk says this will show the guys what it is going to take next year to be competitive.

The Westerners end the season with a record of 7-15.
