Le Mars boys soccer wins back-and-forth match with Spirit Lake Park/Okoboji

The Le Mars Community boys soccer team won their second game of the year with a tight 3-2 victory over Spirit Lake Park/Okoboji on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead into the half, lost that lead midway through the second, and scored two goals down the stretch to retake the lead and win the game. Le Mars assistant coach Karlton Hector said the Bulldogs had to regroup after a disappointing result on Monday night to put together a better showing against the Indians.

Jovany Kabongo netted all three Bulldog goals for his second hat trick of the season. He will receive the attention on the stat sheet, but Coach Hector says he was set up well by his teammates on multiple occasions.

The Bulldogs were going into the game with a giant question mark in net after Mason Pippett was ruled out. The Bulldogs turned to Karter Melvin who joined the team for the first time this week. Coach Hector says he played very well considering his quick transformation into a soccer goalkeeper.

Le Mars now sits at 2-1-1 on the season and quickly returns to the pitch for a home matchup against Sioux Center on back-to-back nights. Coach Hector says he is looking forward to seeing how the guys respond to playing consecutive games.

Le Mars’ matchup with Sioux Center kicks off at 6:30 PM at Le Mars Community Stadium.
