The Le Mars Community girls golf team opened their season with a win at Prairie Rose Golf Course in Brunsville on Friday beating Western Christian 214-223.
The Bulldogs were able to capitalize on some great conditions to put in a strong performance to open the season. Head coach Dave Irwin says his girls played a very good round of golf.
Le Mars will have many golfers, but this will not be the only sport for the majority of them. Whether it is soccer, track, or tennis, Le Mars’ girls golf team is sharing athletes with the other spring sports. Coach Irwin says it is a unique opportunity for students at Le Mars Community.
Because of the athlete sharing that needs to happen, the Bulldogs will need to have some depth. They were able to show that with some low scores in both varsity and junior varsity ranks against the Wolfpack. Coach Irwin says that depth will be a huge asset.
With many Bulldog golfers competing in other sports, practice time becomes a challenge. Coach Irwin says the girls just have to find some time to get out and hit a golf ball a little.
The Bulldogs continue their season Tuesday at Willow Creek with a triangular against Sioux City North and West.
