The MMCRU boys golf team clinched the War Eagle Conference regular season and tournament titles winning the conference tournament with a score of 321 at Willow Creek Golf Course in Le Mars on Monday.
The Royals were able to beat all challengers by a minimum of 12 strokes to secure the conference titles. MMCRU head coach Mark Schuttler says that was because his team showed their experience in staying calm during tough times.
That experience and calm presence has allowed everybody to have a major hand in wins throughout the season. Coach Schuttler says no one guy is going to be the be all end all for his team.
Cayben Olson led MMCRU with a 78 finishing in a three-way tie for first prior to breaking that tie with a playoff hole. Mason Hill added a 79 as a key contributor to the win as well. Coach Schuttler says both guys brought their A-game to secure the victory.
After qualifying for the state meet last year in Class 1A, the Royals are up a class in 2A this year and will compete against some tough teams in their sectional and district meets. Coach Schuttler says he needs everyone to play their best because they need some great low scores.
MMCRU will compete in a sectional meet on Wednesday in Holstein. Should they advance, the Royals will compete in Lake Mills at the district meet on Monday, May 19.
