Akron-Westfield girls golf clinches 2025 War Eagle Conference Championship with total team effort

The Akron-Westfield girls golf team clinched the War Eagle Conference outright championship shooting a 371 at the conference tournament in Le Mars on Tuesday.

You do not have to look far to see why the Westerners won the tournament. A total of 15 golfers shot 99 or lower in the tournament. Five of those 15 come from Akron-Westfield. Head coach Steven Husk says everybody is capable of having big days, and that showed in the win.

Kaylie Meinen was the big bright spot for the Westerners. After struggling at times throughout the season, Meinen came out and shot an 89 to lead the Westerners to victory. Coach Husk says her improvement has been steady all season.

The Westerners got the benefit of competing against Gehlen Catholic in Le Mars earlier in the season, so they were better prepared for what the course can bring. Coach Husk says that allowed his team to be very patient and accurate all day.

Akron-Westfield comes back to Le Mars later this week for the regional opening round tournament. Coach Husk says the girls will need to be better on the greens to move on in the postseason.

Akron-Westfield’s regional opening round in Le Mars is set for Friday, May 16.
