The Akron-Westfield boys golf team qualified for Monday’s district meet with a second-place finish in Kingsley with a score of 352.
The score was a lot higher than the Westerners wanted it to be after fighting with some windy and tough course conditions. Head coach Steven Husk says the guys battled through and earned the right to play on Monday.
The bright side of that 352 score is that it only needs a few things to be altered to bring it significantly lower. Coach Husk says everybody has a little thing they can do to bring that score back to more desirable levels.
The Westerners will face a tough challenge with a district meet that will feature a state championship contender in Boyden-Hull. Coach Husk says they are intimidating, but the guys have to play their own game and worry about the results later on.
Akron-Westfield competes in the district meet on Monday, May 19 at Willow Creek Golf Course in Le Mars.
