Gehlen Catholic boys golf advances to district meet with dominant sectional win in Kingsley

The Gehlen Catholic boys golf team won their sectional meet in Kingsley on Wednesday by a substantial 25-stroke margin putting up a total of 327 to advance to the district meet.

The Jays do not normally compete in Kingsley, so they got out there prior to the tournament for a practice round. Head coach Nathan Carlson says that practice round went very poorly, but the guys bounced back and performed well enough to win.

All four scoring Gehlen golfers finished in the top six at the meet with all of them scoring 83 or under. Coach Carlson says the guys build off each other in good times and bad times.

The Jays will compete in the district tournament on their home course once again after hosting the tournament for the last couple of years. Coach Carlson says he wants the guys to have confidence in the fact that they know the course well.

The district tournament takes place Monday, May 19 at Willow Creek Golf Course in Le Mars.
