The Le Mars Community baseball team opened their 2025 campaign with a pair of MRAC losses at fourth-ranked Bishop Heelan. The Crusaders took the first game 6-1 and the second game 7-1 over Le Mars.
In this first week of the season, the Bulldogs are contending with the final overlap of spring sports. That forced the Bulldogs into playing guys in different positions to keep them fresh for events like state track this week. Head coach Trent Eckstaine says guys stepped up into those different roles well in spite of the outcomes.
The Bulldog offense just could not keep up with the run production Bishop Heelan was producing. The Crusaders scored early and often and forced Le Mars to play from behind. Coach Eckstaine says the bats were unable to produce enough hits even though they made some good contact.
The Bulldogs will be dealing with a short-handed staff once again later this week with the Bulldogs taking on Sioux City North and Storm Lake during state track. Coach Eckstaine says some guys are going to have to step up into a different role again to give the Bulldogs a chance at some wins.
Le Mars starts the season off 0-2 overall and in MRAC play. They take on Sioux City North at Bud Speraw Field in Sioux City on Thursday, May 22.
