A Le Mars-based family musical group is celebrating 25 years of performing. The Browns are marking the milestone with the release of a 25th Anniversary Album later this month.  Michaela Brown talked with KLEM about the early days of the group.
She says the Plymouth County Fair is one of the group’s longest running annual performances.  The 25th Anniversary album is titled “Better Days Ahead.”
The Browns plan to open their new theatre on Plymouth Street in Le Mars later this year.
Siren Test
It’s the first Monday of the month and that means the City of Le Mars monthly testing of tornado sirens will be at 1pm today.  Testing takes place on the first Mondays of the month through November.    If the Monday falls on a holiday or there is inclement weather the test will take place the following Monday.
Lunch & Learn
The Plymouth County Community Organizations Active in Disasters (COAD) invites local organizations to a “Lunch and Learn” this Wednesday, June 4.  The meeting will be held from 11:30 am – 1 pm at the Le Mars Community School District’s Education Service Center’s large board room at 940 Lincoln Street SW, Le Mars.
This informal gathering is an opportunity for organizations involved in emergency response, recovery, and community support to come together, share information, and strengthen collaboration ahead of future disasters.
 A complimentary lunch will be provided. RSVPs are requested by June 2, 2025 to rsocknat@plymouthcountyiowa.gov.
Community Festivals
Summer means community celebrations and the town of Merrill will hold its annual Merrill Daze this Friday and Saturday while Sioux Center kicks off their annual festival called Summer Celebration Thursday  through Saturday this week.
Merrill activities will be at Kissinger Center. Friday from 4 till 7 features the car show, the 4-H Food Stand provided by Pork producers, the Agri-Vision Kiddie Train, Bingo, and a Foam Party, Saturday activities in Merrill include the Kids Parade at 9 a.m., a petting zoo and pony rides, a bouncy house and kids games. The Iowa State Bank Ice Cream Truck will on hand both days.
The Sioux Center Summer Celebration begins Thursday with a free community cook-out in Central Park.  Friday is the Cruise-In at the Centre Mall Parking lot  at 5 p.m. and a free street dance downtown at 7:30.  Saturday is the merchant market at 9 a.m., the free Kids Karnival in Central Park from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m., and a parade Saturday at 5 p.m.  Celebration organizers say the event also features great food each day and the musical Annie.
And of course, we’re looking forward to Ice Cream Days in Le Mars later this month, June 18-21.
