Remsen St. Mary’s softball dominates Gehlen Catholic in four innings

The Remsen St. Mary’s softball team showed their dominance in a 10-0, four-inning victory over Gehlen Catholic in Remsen on Monday night.

The Hawk bats were consistently on their game scoring a run in the first, five in the second, and another four in the third. Head coach Erika Bates says the big innings were due to having some familiarity with what Gehlen’s pitcher was going to throw.

Mia Matgen was the star of the offensive outburst for the Hawks going 2-2 with a double and driving in four runs in the victory. Coach Bates says her consistency has been huge for her team lately.

Through all of the offensive success, Hallie Bunkers was dealing in the circle allowing three hits, no runs, and striking out two batters. Coach Bates says she was very accurate and threw exactly what she needed to at the right time.

Remsen St. Mary’s improved to 11-7 overall with the win and now has a total of three games remaining before the regular season ends, and the postseason begins. Coach Bates says the Hawks are focused on cleaning up things to be on their a-game come tournament competition.

With the loss, Gehlen Catholic drops to 10-12 for the regular season.
