Le Mars softball drops tight postseason matchup with No. 14 SB-L

The Le Mars Community softball team ended their season with a region semifinal loss at No. 14 Sergeant Bluff-Luton by the score of 4-2.

Both sides scored a run in the first inning, but the scoring dried up over the next few innings with neither side scoring again until the fifth inning. Le Mars head coach Brooke Berkenpas says she was happy with the defensive effort to wiggle out of some jams in those innings.

The Bulldogs had a chance to take the lead back in the top of the fifth when they put a Bulldog on every base with two outs in the inning and failed to score. Coach Berkenpas says that was a tough missed opportunity, and it was tough to recover from.

The Warriors put three runs on the board in the fifth and sixth innings giving them the lead for good. The Bulldogs did not back down in the seventh tacking a run on the board but coming up short in the comeback effort. Coach Berkenpas says she was proud to see the team fight back in a tough spot.

Le Mars graduates a senior class of five that have left their impression on the program in many ways. These groups set team and individual records that might not get broken for a while. Coach Berkenpas says they were hard-working girls that were fun to be around.

Le Mars ends the season with a 31-10 record with five of their losses this year coming to Sergeant Bluff-Luton. The Warriors advance with a 33-6 record to play ADM in a region final on Tuesday night.
