Low Level Flooding in Le Mars forces Golf Course Closing

The National Weather Service issued an additional flood warning Thursday afternoon for the Floyd River at Le Mars until early Saturday Morning.

Officials say the flood stage for Le Mars is 20 feet.  The river is expected to crest at 20.1 feet this (Thursday) evening before falling overnight. The National Weather Service says it will fall below flood stage Friday morning.

Rainfall has resulted in low level flooding here in Le Mars.   Willow Creek Golf Course and the walk trail around the golf course in Le Mars is  closed for at least today and tomorrow.  The bar and grill at the golf course will remain open Thursday and Friday for lunch. The live music planned for the golf course for Friday night will be held, but the P’s Pizza Annual Golf Tourney planned for this weekend will be rescheduled.

Mahogany Avenue near the campground, 4th Avenue NE in Le Mars, closed as water was across that street.

The situation is being monitored by law enforcement, the fire department, and Plymouth County Emergency Management.

***Governor Kim Reynolds issued a disaster proclamation Thursday for Plymouth County, addressing severe weather that took place on July 28th which resulted in local flooding in Le Mars and nearby areas.

The governor’s proclamation allows state resources to be utilized to respond to the flooding and activates the Iowa Individualized Assistance Grant Program and Disaster Case Advocacy Program.
