Le Mars Art Center Hosts “Creative Conversations”
The Le Mars Arts Center is inviting the community to an evening filled with live art, live music, and an art giveaway. Executive Director Draven Haefs says the event being held today (Thursday, August 21) from 4:30 till 7 p.m. is call “Creative Conversations”
Haefs says the evening is designed to spotlight local artists, showcase new programs, exhibitions, and updates to the Arts Center
Haefs says “Creative Conversations” will be the first of what will become a quarterly event.

School Open Houses Being Held
Gehlen Catholic School is hosting an Open House today in preparation for a new school year. Gehlen’s Open House is being held from 5 till 7 p.m. today (Thursday, August 21) for Pre-K through 12th graders.
Le Mars Community will host a district-wide open house tomorrow (Friday August 22nd) from 11 a.m. till 1 p.m. This is an opportunity for students and families to visit classrooms, meet teachers, and get ready for the start of the school year.
Monday will be the first day of classes for Gehlen Catholic, Le Mars Community, Hinton, Kingsley Pierson, Remsen St Mary’s, and MMCRU. Akron Westfield’s first day is this Friday, August 22nd.

Traffic Enforcement Project
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office and the Remsen Police Department will be partnering for a traffic enforcement project. On Wednesday, August 27th from 3 p.m. until approximately 7 p.m., officers and deputies will be in and around the City of Remsen. Officers and Deputies will be looking for excessive speed, lack of seat belt usage and distracted driving to include violation of Iowa’s new hands-free law. The goal of this project is to educate the public on the new hands-free law and reduce serious injury and fatality accidents. This project is funded in part by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau.

Dine Around Book Talk
The Le Mars Public Library will host another “Dine Around Book Talk,” a meetup for book enthusiasts. The group typically meets at restaurants, but this Saturday, it will take place at the Le Mars Farmer’s Market from 9:30 till 10:30 a.m. Pre-registration is requested by contacting the Le Mars Public Library but not required. Look for the table at the Farmer’s Market, and note that this week’s Le Mars Farmer’s Market will be held in the lot behind the stage of the Olson Cultural Events Center to accommodate set-up for the “Let There Be Light” Le Mars Beer Festival.
