The Hinton cross country teams hosted their first-ever home meet on Monday night at Hillview Recreation Area.
The meet was a long time coming for the Blackhawks who tried to make this happen in previous seasons but could never put it together. Hinton cross country head coach Craig Hoffman says it was great to finally make it happen.
The girls christened the new meet with a team win and an individual win led by Stella Riediger who won the meet and Mesa Zellmer who took third individually. It was also their varsity debut competing in their first meets as freshmen. Coach Hoffman says it was an exciting night for that program.
On the boys side, Hinton did not field enough varsity runners to score as a team. They did get a pair of top-15 finishes led by Caleb Bower placing fourth. Coach Hoffman says Bower has been the leader for a while, and guys are starting to follow in line.
With a lot of meets now taking place on golf courses, it was good for Hinton to run a true cross country course for a change. Coach Hoffman says it will prepare his team well for other meets in the future.
Hinton’s next meet takes place on Tuesday, September 9 in Sibley.
