Secretary Naig Visits Hinton Bison Ranch
“Oh give me a home where the buffalo roam…”
Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig stopped at the Heritage Bison Ranch near Hinton Monday as part of several stops in Northwest Iowa.
Rachel Bollmeyer, who along with her husband Lance, operates the ranch. She told the Ag Secretary they could use help with marketing their Bison products online.
Naig talked about the Choose Iowa program, as a way to showcase Iowa products.
Naig encouraged Iowans to check out the Choose Iowa website.
Rachel Bollmeyer says Bison is a lean, healthy choice.
She says Heritage Bison Ranch is a family operation.
Bollmeyer says they add a personal touch with all their online shipments.

Merrill Ambulance Request
The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors once again discussed a request from the Merrill Ambulance. They are asking for funding for a Lifepak defibrillator using opioid funds. Merrill Service Director Jacob Conley met with the Supervisors this morning concerning the request which totaled $49,888 including a trade-in. This represents a discount that is available until October 1st of this year.
During their August 12th meeting, the Supervisors tabled the Merrill request, citing the lack of monies in that fund at the present time. The request was tabled during the August 12th meeting until December after a discussion which included bringing all of these types of funding requests from all areas of the county together during budget time and also possible future consideration of drug identification equipment that is now available for emergency responders.
With enough monies now available in that fund, the Supervisors today decided to take up the request during their September 9th meeting. During today’s discussion, Supervisor Mike Van Otterloo pointed out that the Le Mars department which has this type of defibrillator is dispatched for every Merrill call and repeated his preference to prioritize requests that would include drug identification equipment.

Melbourne United Methodist Church Anniversary
The oldest church in Plymouth County will be celebrating its 165th Anniversary in September. Melbourne United Methodist Church will host several events on Sunday, September 7th.
The town of Melbourne was the first county seat in Plymouth Count, and this church is the only building remaining.
A combined service with Hinton United Methodist Church will be held at 10:30 a.m. on September 7th. Lunch will be served after the service for a free will offering featuring Bob’s Drive inn taverns and a large variety of desserts. At 1 p.m. a concert of music and praise will be provided by pianist and soloist Chandler Todd.

Community Coffee at the Museum
Tomorrow’s (Wednesday, August 27) Le Mars Chamber “Community Coffee” will be held at the Plymouth County Historical Museum. The coffee will be a tribute to the late Judy Bowman, who was administrator of the museum for 25 years, from November of 1998 till the end of December 2023. Copies of Bowman’s latest book “Down at Dalton” will be available for sale.

New Family Physician Joins Floyd Valley Clinics
Dr. Heidi Miller will begin seeing patients on Monday, September 8th at Floyd Valley Clinics – Le Mars. She will offer a full-spectrum family practice including family medicine obstetrics.
Dr. Miller is originally from the Siouxland area, growing up in Lyons, NE. She is a graduate of Kansas City University, College of Osteopathic Medicine and just completed her residency in Wichita, KS.

Dog and Motorcycle Accident
Saturday afternoon (August 23) the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call shortly after 4:30 p.m. regarding a dog and motorcycle accident.
It was determined that a 2024 Indian Pursuit Darkhorse motorcycle, driven by 51 year old Jeremy Bice, of Akron, Iowa, had been traveling westbound on C60 when a St. Bernard dog ran out into the roadway colliding with the motorcycle. The motorcycle was able to stay upright after the collision and stop. The Indian motorcycle sustained approximately $1,600 in damage to its front left side. The dog sustained minor injuries. The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Kingsley Police Department.
