The Le Mars Community cross country teams hosted the annual Gary Meyer Invitational in Brunsville on Tuesday night.
On the girls side, the Bulldogs placed eighth in a 16-team field of strong competitive programs. Le Mars head coach Kyle Borchers says the competition was tough, but that was good to see where the girls are at early in the year.
Le Mars has gotten deeper as a program from 2024 to 2025, and that showed again on Tuesday. Coach Borchers says having a tighter collection of runners around the same time has been helpful for his team in the standings early on.
On the boys side, Le Mars has not been able to field enough runners to score points in the team standings. While that aspect is absent from this year’s team, Coach Borchers says the runners they do have are dedicated to running their best.
Jony Sanchez has led the Bulldogs all year and did again on Tuesday running a time just a bit over 18 minutes and placing 23rd. Coach Borchers says he is bringing some other runners along like Isaac Beller to bring their collective quality up.
Le Mars returns to action on Tuesday, September 16 at Storm Lake.
