The Marian University men’s golf team won the Northwest Iowa National Invitational in their inaugural appearance in Le Mars. Head coach Steve Simmons says his team had a great time competing.
Lane Zedrick was the one that led the team after a strong first day in which he shot a 67 round and a 62 round which set a new tournament record. Coach Simmons says he has been strong for the team, but everybody scored well to lead to the win.
The Knights had a great strategy to play the course and its conditions. Coach Simmons says that meant utilizing the wind as an advantage at times and playing cautiously when it was a disadvantage.
With this being the first time for the Knights in Le Mars, they had to be initiated into what makes Le Mars great. The opportunity to get ice cream in the Ice Cream Capital of the World eluded them most of the week. Coach Simmons says they took advantage of the opportunity after their win.
The Knights hit the links again on September 22 in Illinois at a meet hosted at TPC Deere Run Golf Course.
