Central Valley Ag giving back to communities for National Co-op Month
The month of October is National Co-op Month, and Central Valley Ag is celebrating the month by organizing a company-wide food drive, including CVA’s locations in Plymouth County.
Throughout October, CVA will be collecting non-perishable food items to donate to local food banks. With higher demand expected during the winter months, many food banks need restocking during this time of year in order to support local communities. All CVA locations will accept food items during the month, and community members are encouraged to donate. The location that donates the most to their local pantry will receive a $250 corporate donation from CVA.
Nic McCarthy, CEO of Central Valley Ag, said in a press release that CVA wants to do their part to support the communities that support them, and that “being part of a cooperative means stepping up when our neighbors need help”.
CVA has locations in Le Mars, Hinton, Akron, and Oyens, and will accept non-perishable food items until October 31st.

Le Mars Public Library temporarily closing Thursday due to conference
The Le Mars Public Library will be closed this upcoming Thursday, October 2nd, with staff members participating in the Iowa Library Association Conference in Sioux City.
As this is the first time the conference will be held in Sioux City in 15 years, and the first held in the western part of the state since 2019, library director Shirley Taylor says she wanted more staff members to attend. Three library staff members will present during the conference, with Taylor and librarians Nancy Ramirez and Abigail Chagolla presenting sessions at the conference. The last time the library was closed for staff training was in 2019.
The library will reopen to the public on Friday, October 3rd.

Iowa’s Healthiest State Walk occurs this week
The 15th annual Iowa’s Healthiest State Walk starts this Wednesday, in support of the Healthiest State Initiative.
Open to everyone, this 30 minute walk is part of a statewide movement towards healthier living. The Le Mars part of the statewide walk will be held at the Le Mars YMCA’s upstairs gym, and registration is free. The Healthiest State Initiative’s goal is for the state of Iowa to be the healthiest state in the nation.
The walk starts on Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m..

No Plymouth County Board of Supervisors meeting this week
The Plymouth County Board of Supervisors meeting scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled due to a lack of agenda items. The next meeting of the Board will take place on Tuesday, October 7th, at 9:30 a.m..
During last week’s meeting, the Board approved a bid for a new storage building from Sitzmann Construction, as well as discussing and approving a plan to modernize the Plymouth County Courthouse’s elevator and fire alarm systems.
