The Le Mars Community football team opened their district schedule on homecoming with a 33-20 win over Spencer on Friday night.
The Bulldog and Tiger rivalry has had some intense moments the last few years, but the most recent one was fresh in the minds of Le Mars players heading into the game. Head coach Ken Vigdal says the guys were motivated to right last year’s loss during this very same game.
Through the first half, Spencer was able to run the ball consistently to keep them within Le Mars on the scoreboard. At halftime, things changed. Le Mars was able to slow down the run, and it led to Le Mars keeping Spencer off the scoreboard in the fourth quarter. Coach Vigdal says a quick adjustment at halftime was needed to slow them down.
The Bulldog offense was clicking thanks to many players having an impact. The five touchdowns were scored by four different players with the offense outputting 344 yards of offense. Coach Vigdal says it is no sweat when a defense takes away one player because there is always someone ready to get the ball next.
Le Mars improves to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in the district with the win. They will get to compete a day sooner than everyone else with a Thursday game at Sioux City West this week. Coach Vigdal says his team has gotten used to these kinds of games, and it is starting to become a thing to look forward to on the schedule.
Le Mars and Sioux City West kick off at 7:00 PM on Thursday night in Sioux City. You can listen to the game on KLEM starting at 6:30 with a video stream also provided on the KLEM Radio YouTube channel.
