Local Le Mars business owner enters “The Big Challenge”
A Le Mars entrepreneur has submitted her business dream in a contest called “The Big Challenge.”
Priscilla Kenowith, representing “The Market at Shop Near the Corner” located on Central Avenue in downtown Le Mars, is asking for support during the online voting competition.
Sponsored by Iowa’s West Coast Initiative, finalists will recruit friends, family, and customers to vote now through October 10th. Kenowith says “the Market” is a collection of small shops.
She says it took a “leap of faith” to expand her business and it would mean a lot to her to win the competition.
The top vote-getters will participate in a regional contest held on the evening of November 20th at the Wells Visitor Center and Ice Cream Parlor in Le Mars.

Le Mars Fire-Rescue hosting pancake breakfast this weekend
The Le Mars Fire-Rescue is holding a pancake breakfast this Sunday, October 5th, ahead of National Fire Prevention Week.
The breakfast will be held at Fire Station 1, across from the Eagles Club in downtown Le Mars. Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. until noon, with pancakes, sausages, and syrup available. The department will accept free will offerings at this time.
The breakfast will be held on Sunday morning, starting at 8 a.m..

Northwest Iowa man pleads guilty to illegal reentry
A Mexican man who gave a fake name when he was arrested for drunk driving in northwest Iowa has pleaded guilty to illegally re-entering the country.
49-year-old Jesus Banuelos-Lepe had been living in the small town of Maurice when he was picked up for drunk driving in Sioux County in July. Prosecutors say he’s been deported five times and had a 2007 felony conviction in Oregon for transporting an illegal alien. Banuelos-Lepe is currently in the custody of U.S. Marshals and could be sentenced to up to 10 years in a federal prison.

Over $30,000 raised for senior care transportation at Orange City Area Health
The Orange City Area Health System and Auxiliary Board recently donated over $30,000 to purchase new forms of transport for local senior citizens.
Two six-passenger golf carts will now be used to take residents from Prairie Ridge Care Center and Landsmeer Ridge Retirement Community out and about in the community. The new carts will replace the previously-used trolley, and will be used to bring residents out for activities and events. The Auxiliary raises money throughout the year through various fundraising events in Orange City.
The new golf carts are available now for use by residents.
