
Firefighters were sent to a home in rural Hinton yesterday, after a fire was started by a candle in the basement of the residence.
At approximately 11:34 a.m., Hinton Fire Rescue was dispatched to a home on 310th Street in Hinton, where first responders noticed heavy smoke coming from the back of the residence. After determining the fire originated from the basement, crews quickly brought the fire under control and prevented it from spreading further throughout the house.
An investigation determined the cause of the fire to be a candle in the basement, and that the fire was accidental. All occupants and pets in the house were able to evacuate before crews arrived. The Le Mars Fire Rescue, Merrill Fire Department, Hinton Police Department, the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, and the Rural Electric Cooperative assisted with the fire.
