Gehlen Catholic volleyball sees season end to No. 15 Boyden-Hull

The Gehlen Catholic volleyball team dropped their region quarterfinal match with No. 15 Boyden-Hull on Wednesday night in four sets.

The Jays were going into a tough matchup on the round, but they showed some toughness throughout the match. That toughness showed in some long points and some back-and-forth runs of points. Head coach Jesse Bohnenkamp says she was proud of her team’s effort.

The second set gave the Jays a glimpse of hope with it falling Gehlen’s way by a score of 25-21. The Jays went on a run late in the set and were able to ride that toward a crucial set win. Coach Bohnenkamp says that was the set that the Jays put everything together in.

Boyden-Hull took the third and fourth sets to finish off the win. The match the career of three Gehlen Catholic seniors. Coach Bohnenkamp says they contributed so much to the program.

Thankfully for Gehlen, those are the only three players they will lose off the team ahead of next season. Coach Bohnenkamp says a lot of young players got some valuable playing time this season, and that will pay off well next year.

Gehlen’s season ends with a record of 10-19. Boyden-Hull advances to take on Remsen St. Mary’s on Monday, October 27 in Hull.
