Remsen St. Mary’s Girls Basketball Bus Involved In Highway 75 Crash (Update)

Plymouth County Sheriff News Release:  Sunday: November 16

On November 15th, 2025 at approximately 12:53 p.m. the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office received multiple 911 calls in reference to a two-vehicle accident that involved injuries near the intersection of Hwy 75 and C-80.

A 2014 StarCraft Prodigy bus and a black 2016 Jeep Compass crashed near the intersection of Hwy 75 and C-80 in Plymouth County leaving the vehicles partially in the roadway. The bus was stopped on C-80 and attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Hwy 75, to travel north. The Jeep was southbound on Hwy 75 at which time a crash occurred within the intersection.

As a result of the crash, multiple injuries were reported, and multiple individuals were transported to the hospital by ambulance and helicopter.  Highway 75 traffic was detoured for the crash investigation.

The names of the individuals are not being released at this time. The crash is still under investigation by the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.

The Plymouth County Sherriff’s Office was assisted by the Iowa State Patrol, Hinton Police Department, the Hinton Ambulance, the Hinton Fire Department, Lawton Ambulance, Sgt. Bluff Ambulance, Kingsley Ambulance, Merrill Ambulance, Sioux City Fire Rescue, Sioux City Police Department, Sgt. Bluff Police Department, the Woodbury County Sheriff’s Office, WINGS, Iowa DOT, and Stockton Towing.

Several injuries occurred in the collision of an SUV and a bus carrying the Remsen St. Mary’s girls basketball team just before 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 75 and C-80 in southern Plymouth County.

Hinton Fire Chief Cameron Peirce issued a news release stating first responders found the passenger vehicle in the southbound lane of Highway 75 fully involved in fire, and the Remsen St. Mary’s school bus in the intersection with impact damage to the driver’s side.

Firefighters immediately initiated patient care while simultaneously extinguishing the vehicle fire.

A mass-casualty incident was declared, with all patients triaged according to injury severity and transported by available ambulances.

The Remsen St. Mary’s girls basketball team was on its way home from playing in a scrimmage at Dakota Dunes.

There has been no confirmation of the number of injuries as of 6:20 p.m. Saturday.

At approximately 12:53 p.m., Hinton Fire Rescue was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision involving a school bus and passenger vehicle, with reports of multiple injuries and a vehicle fire, at the intersection of Highway 75 and County Road C-80 in rural Hinton.
Upon arrival, crews found a passenger vehicle in the southbound lane fully involved on fire and a Remsen St. Mary’s school bus in the intersection with impact damage to the driver’s side. Multiple patients were identified. Firefighters immediately initiated patient care while simultaneously extinguishing the vehicle fire.
Due to the number of individuals requiring medical attention, a mass-casualty incident was declared. All patients were triaged according to injury severity and transported by available ambulance units.
Hinton Fire Rescue was assisted on scene by Sioux City Fire Rescue, Sioux City Police Department, Merrill Ambulance, Kingsley Ambulance, Sergeant Bluff Fire Rescue, Lawton Ambulance, Wings Air, the Iowa State Patrol, Hinton Police Department, Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, Woodbury County Sheriffs Office, Stockton Towing, and the Iowa Department of Transportation.

Several injuries have been reported in the collision of an S-U-V and an activities bus early Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 75 and C-80 in southern Plymouth County.
The Sioux City Catholic Diocese confirms the bus involved was carrying members of the Remsen St. Mary’s girls basketball team, which was on its way home from playing in a scrimmage in Dakota Dunes.
The Remsen St. Mary School District posted on social media that a rosary would be held for the girls basketball team following the 4:30 p.m. Saturday Mass.
At least five ambulances were dispatched to the scene of the accident, and Sioux City hospitals were placed on standby.
Some of the victims were taken to a Sioux Falls hospital.
Plymouth County authorities have not released any other details at this time.
