The Le Mars Community girls wrestling opened their dual season and celebrated senior night at home on Thursday night.
After a number of tournaments opened the competition season for the Bulldogs, the duals were a nice change of pace. Head coach Greer Milledge says it forced some girls to wrestle in different weight classes, and they all responded to that challenge.
In the first dual, the Bulldogs defeated Council Bluffs AL 60-18, but they lost the second dual to Sioux City East by a score of 42-36. In each dual, Le Mars set the tone early getting a Kylee Czerwiec pin at 100 pounds. Coach Milledge says that first match of a dual is vital toward picking up early momentum.
In the second dual, Le Mars had the dual tied at 36 going into the last bout at 190 since there was a double forfeit at 235. Le Mars ended up losing the match to drop the dual. Coach Milledge says there were a few opportunities where he would like to see girls fight out a match and avoid getting pinned at all costs.
Le Mars has a busy pre-holiday schedule with a dual tournament, the Council Bluffs Classic, a tournament in Fort Dodge, and a home double dual. Coach Milledge says this will give the team a great measuring stick of where they are at prior to the stretch run after the holidays.
Le Mars is now 1-1 overall and in MRAC dual competition.
