A national brand of high-quality pet food has opened it’s doors to their new facility in Le Mars. Barkley’s Bag held a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon, and head of operations Brian Rich explained more about the company to KLEM.
The facility formally started operations back in August, and according to Rich, currently produces between 250,000 and 300,000 units a month. Rich says that Le Mars was chosen to be closer to the company’s suppliers.
Rich says that Barkley’s is dedicated to Le Mars long-term.

Local dancers to perform at ReliaQuest Bowl
A team of five local dancers from Sioux City, Hinton, and Lawton, are set to travel to Tampa, FL at the end of the month to perform in the annual ReliaQuest Bowl game. The team will join hundreds of other dancers from across the country in performing at the pre-game and half-time shows of the bowl game.
The team was selected to participate in the game after competing at the Together We Dance Nationals competition in Rochester, MN. The dancers worked to fundraise for the trip over the past year, from selling pies and cupcakes to securing sponsorships and donations from Siouxland businesses. Two final practices will be held on December 10th and the 22nd before the group travels to Tampa. In addition to performing at the game, the group will also enjoy a fun-filled week in Tampa, visiting locations such as Busch Gardens, Clearwater Beach, a dinner cruise, and Disney World and Universal Studios.
Baxter, MN-based Just for Kix has produced the bowl game’s entertainment for more than 30 years, with the group joining hundreds of dancers and marching bands from across the country. The game itself, featuring the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Vanderbilt Commodores, will take place on New Year’s Eve, airing live on ESPN at 11am central.

Kiwanis & Aktion Club members make popcorn balls for Festival of Trees
Last week, the Kiwanis & Aktion Club made over a thousand popcorn balls for the Plymouth County Historical Museum’s Festival of Trees.
Club members spent approximately an hour and a half making the popcorn balls, alongside staff from the Pride Group, Kiwanis spouses, and friends. The American Legion lent the group their hall for the operation, and Fareway provided a saran wrap machine to wrap the popcorn balls.
The balls were handed out during the first weekend of the Festival of Trees, with more available this upcoming weekend on Saturday and Sunday, December 13th and 14th, from 5pm to 8pm.
