Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office, Le Mars Police Department warns residents of scams
Local authorities are warning residents of scams that might or already have affected Plymouth County residents.
The Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office says they’ve received reports from citizens of calls from the county advising them that there is a warrant out for their arrest for not appearing for jury duty. The county does not contact individuals by phone to inform them of warrants, nor will they ask for money over the phone. The calls reportedly came from the Sheriff’s Office phone number, however the number was “spoofed.” If you are ever in doubt of a call for any reason, contact the Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office with your information at 712-546-8191.
The Le Mars Police Department would like to remind residents of potential scams during the holiday season. The department says to watch out for unexpected “package delivery” texts, fake charity donation requests, pop-up online shops using fake photos, messages claiming a loved one needs urgent money, and requests to pay bills with credit cards. If you are unsure if something is real, check the official website before acting, or contact the Le Mars Police Department at 712-546-4113.
