The MMCRU girls basketball team snapped a three-game losing skid with a 56-40 win at Gehlen Catholic on Monday night.
After winning just two games last year, the Royals have already won three games this season. With the win snapping a losing streak and finishing off 2025, head coach Gillian Letsche says the girls are feeling good about where things are at.
The game was played at a back-and-forth pace for quite a while until the fourth quarter when the Royals went on a 12-0 run to build a double-digit lead late. Gehlen Catholic head coach Brandon Schaecher says that short stretch doomed his Jays.
The Royals did not have to do much differently to go on the run. Coach Letsche says her girls just played a lot better to make it happen.
After 10 games to open the season, the Jays finally get some time to relax and work on the things that need worked on. After a 3-7 start to the season, Coach Schaecher says there are many ways his team can improve.
MMCRU improves to 3-5 with the win and looks to take this winning energy into the new year. Coach Letsche says she needs her team to take that energy into a controlled tempo on the court after the holidays.
Chloe Alesch and Tia Tentinger were the top scorers for the Royals with 16 points each. Ella Ruhland led Gehlen Catholic with nine points in the loss.
