The Le Mars Community boys basketball team let a non-conference matchup with Sioux Center slip away on Monday night by the score of 71-60.
The Bulldogs were in a good spot early in the fourth quarter taking a 54-49 lead early in the period. Sioux Center proceeded to go on a 14-0 run and outscore the Bulldogs 22-6 to finish the game. Le Mars head coach Cody Dyhrkopp says that the damage was done late in the third quarter when his guys missed some opportunities.
Le Mars was in a spot to win the game thanks to an offensive onslaught early on from Jack Wells who scored 16 points in the first half. Coach Dyhrkopp says he took some unconventional shots, but they were ones that he is comfortable taking.
The Bulldogs fall to 4-4 on the season with the loss, but they get right back to work with more non-conference games against some quality 3A competition. Coach Dyhrkopp says this stretch will test his guys heading into the late portion of the season.
The Bulldogs face off with defending state champion MOC-Floyd Valley on Thursday on KLEM Radio then welcome No. 4 Storm Lake to town on Friday.
