The Le Mars Community girls basketball team lost their 2026 opener to No. 15 Sioux Center on Monday night by the score of 50-38.
Le Mars was competitive in the game all the way until the fourth quarter. Le Mars kept it close and was within four points of the Warriors going into the fourth quarter. Head coach Sidney Ruden says that was because the Bulldogs played some great defense.
Grace Westhoff took the offensive side of the ball over in the second half scoring 11 of her 17 points in the second half and nine of them in the third quarter. Coach Ruden says she was getting to her spot on the floor and not missing.
The Bulldogs drop to 2-6 with the loss. The rest of the week features non-conference games against teams the Bulldogs could see in the regional tournament. Coach Ruden says this is a great way to get prepared for meaningful basketball late in the season.
The Bulldogs are at MOC-Floyd Valley on Thursday night in a game that can be heard on KLEM. They will then host Storm Lake on Friday night at the Le Mars Competition Gym.
