Le Mars Community breaks ground on new Elementary School

After years of planning and organizing, shovels finally hit the dirt yesterday on Le Mars Community’s new Elementary School. Superintendent Dr. Steve Webner told KLEM that the groundbreaking ceremony was “a dream come true.”

The new school came to fruition thanks to the passage of a bond issue in November of 2024, and Dr. Webner says feedback from the community has played a role in the design and development of the school.

All Elementary students will be housed in the new building, which includes three gymnasiums, a media center, and other features that Dr. Weber says will provide a “world-class education.” Construction on the building has been underway since last month, with students planned to walk through the doors in time for the 2028/29 school year.

Bike Central opens doors to new building

Local bike shop Bike Central officially welcomed members of the public to their new location in downtown Le Mars yesterday during a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Owner Cory Cunard told KLEM that he was excited about what the new space offers.

Cunard purchased the business in 2024, and says he knew he needed to move the shop to a new location from day one.

The Le Mars Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a Community Coffee event at Bike Central yesterday morning, allowing community members to tour the renovated space. Cunard says he hopes to build on the momentum the grand opening offered.

The new space is located at 24 Central Ave NE.
