The Hinton boys golf team opened their season on Friday defeating Remsen St. Mary’s at home by the score of 160-171.
The Blackhawks were competing in their first meet of the season about two weeks following the official start of the season. Hinton head coach Cale Kramer says that meant his team was chomping at the bit to get the season going.
The Blackhawks wasted no time getting going shooting an impressively low score of 160. That low score was the product of many golfers getting their scores very low to start the year. Coach Kramer says he was very impressed with the great start.
The Blackhawks were led by a freshman in his varsity debut as Duncan Mathiason shot a 37 to lead the Blackhawks to the win. Coach Kramer says Mathiason has been very well-prepared to compete at a high level as a freshman.
Hinton continues its regular War Eagle Conference slate of meets on Monday, but the Blackhawks will have an opportunity on Tuesday to get 18 holes in for a competition on Tuesday in Shenandoah. Coach Kramer likes challenging his guys with a meet like this early in the season to build their endurance for 18 holes late in the season.
Hinton’s next competition is on Monday when they host West Sioux before heading to Shenandoah on Tuesday for the Mustang Golf Invite.
