Hinton boys track finishes second in Diediker’s final home meet

The Hinton boys track and field team took home second place from the Blackhawk Relays on Thursday night in Hinton.

The meet was extra special as it marked the final home track meet for head coach Steve Diediker who has been coaching track at Hinton for 50 years. It was also announced that the track meet moving forward will be named the “Hinton Blackhawk Diediker Relays.” He says he has been humbled by the outpouring of support from the community.

It certainly was not the best night to compete with cooler temperatures and high winds putting a damper on the evening. Coach Diediker says his team ran well in spite of the adverse conditions.

The Blackhawks continued to show their depth with a number of strong finishes even if they were not winning every event convincingly. Coach Diediker says that depth plays well in relay races and will make them a hard team to beat throughout the rest of the year.

As Hinton looks ahead to the end of the regular season and further along to the state qualifying meet, Coach Diediker hopes the competitiveness his guys showed on Thursday will translate to those important meets.

Hinton competes next on Tuesday at a meet hosted by Lawton-Bronson.
