The Gehlen Catholic girls track team qualified four events and finished third as a team at Thursday’s state qualifying meet in Lawton.
The Jays have been building some good momentum heading into the state qualifying meet after their second-place finish at the War Eagle Conference meet. Coach Westhoff says the girls prepared well for this important meet.
Individually, Delanie Budden will represent the Jays at state in the shot put after winning the event on Thursday. Coach Westhoff says a quick adjustment got her on the right track to be a state qualifier.
The relay races performed well for the Jays yet again with three relay events scheduled to compete in Des Moines this week. Coach Westhoff says that is due to the culture of team his program has.
This year is a step forward for a Gehlen girls track program that has struggled to consistently send events to state the last couple of years. Coach Westhoff wants to see the program take another step forward with a strong performance once in Des Moines.
The State Track Meet runs from Thursday, May 21 to Saturday, May 23 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
