Fire Chief Schipper on firework regulations, safety tips
As we get closer to the Fourth of July, Le Mars residents will begin to purchase fireworks for use during the holiday weekend. Fireworks have been legally available since June 1st, however under the city’s firework ordinance they cannot be discharged prior to Friday, July 3rd. Le Mars Fire-Rescue Chief Dave Schipper told KLEM that fireworks can only be launched on a person’s property during Fourth of July weekend.
Schipper shared some additional firework safety tips for those planning on lighting them.
The Fire-Rescue Department also recommends dousing fireworks with water and leaving them out of the garbage for at least 24 hours to avoid reignition. If a firework does not light, the department recommends waiting between 20 and 30 minutes before approaching.
Fireworks can be lit in city limits between Friday, July 3rd and Sunday, July 5th from noon to 11pm.

Museum to display Sioux City’s part in America 250 exhibit
A new exhibit showing how Sioux City’s history intersects with several major themes in American history is debuting today at the Sioux City Public Museum. Curator Matt Anderson says the photos and artifacts on display examines those connections as part of Sioux City and America 250.
He says Sioux City and America 250 demonstrates how our community has continually adapted to change while contributing to the larger American story.
Anderson says some of the exhibit deals with the area before Sioux City was actually built here, including the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
The exhibit features more modern events too, such as the crash of United Flight 232 and the beginnings of Gateway Computers.
The Sioux City History 250 exhibit will be on display at the Public Museum through October 4th.
