Ice Cream Days kicking off this week
The “Ice Cream Capital of the World” is gearing up for its signature summer celebration as Ice Cream Days is returning to Le Mars this week from Wednesday, June 17th through Saturday, June 20th.
The celebration kicks off Wednesday with the Community Coffee at the Wells Visitor Center and Ice Cream Parlor at 9:30 a.m. Other Wednesday activities include the Tri-State Cruisers Classic Car Show, live music from the CRS Band, a family bike ride, and the Municipal Band concert and Ice Cream Social in Foster Park.
Thursday, June 18th will feature a kid’s theater production of “That’s Not How I Remember It” at the Postal Playhouse. Also on Thursday is the annual Primebank Ice Cream Social with music by the Noteables, followed by an outdoor screening of the movie “Hoppers” at the Le Mars Chevrolet GMC.
Friday, June 19th is headlined by a free Ice Cream Bash Concert featuring musician Tyler Anthony and the Kid’s Fun Fest hosted by the Le Mars Arts Center.
The four days of fun will wrap up on Saturday, June 20th with the Ice Cream Days Parade, the YMCA Frozen Fun Run 5k and Kids Dash, and the free Ice Cream Bash Concert featuring The Schmidt Brothers. Events and activities taking place on both Friday and Saturday include the Carnival, the Ice Cream Train, and new activities such as Rock Art and the Waffle Cone Warrior Course.

U.S. 75 between Le Mars and Maurice closing starting Wednesday
A portion of U.S. Highway 75 between Le Mars and Sioux Center will close in both directions starting tomorrow for construction, the Iowa Department of Transportation confirmed.
The closure will affect Highway 75 between Iowa Highway 60 north of Le Mars and Iowa Highway 10 north of Maurice, with the DOT confirming that the closure is due to scheduled road construction work. A detour route will be established by the DOT during construction, which will follow Iowa Highway 60 northeast to Alton, through Orange City, and then going westbound on Iowa Highway 10 to Maurice.
Those traveling between Le Mars and Sioux Center are encouraged to follow posted detour signs during the construction period, which will begin at 7am tomorrow, June 17th through June 30th, weather permitting.

Le Mars Police reports released for May
The Le Mars Police Department announced they answered 613 calls for service during the month of May, a slight increase from April.
Officers responded to 50 incidents and made 29 arrests in May, and 356 traffic citations and warnings were issued to drivers. 14 total accidents were reported, with 2 resulting in injury, and 12 resulting in property damage. An investigation was conducted into a non-suspicious death during May.
These figures represent minor increases and decreases from previous months; 31 arrests and 41 incidents were reported in April, while 37 arrests and 47 incidents were reported during March.

Rock Valley officials optimistic FEMA funds coming soon for homes flooded 2 years ago
FEMA is forwarding $2 million to repair flood damage to the city library in Rock Valley and the Rock Valley First Reformed Church is getting $370,000 from FEMA for building repairs. Rock Valley officials say they may soon learn about long-awaited FEMA funding to buyout residential properties swamped by flooding for nearly two years. Tom Van Maanen is Rock Valley’s city administrator.
Van Maanen says he’s cautiously optimistic that approval is coming soon.
The project is estimated to cost around $36 million — including buying and demolishing flooded homes in Rock Valley and converting the property into green space.
