Ice Cream Days: Thursday brings together theater, cinema, music, and ice cream
Day one of the Ice Cream Capitol of the World’s signature summer celebration took place yesterday, with Ice Cream Days getting underway with community events, muscle cars, live music, and plenty of ice cream. Hometown Le Mars Heritage Foundation executive director Kristen Heimgartner gave a recap of Wednesday’s events to KLEM.
Heimgartner also gave a preview of today’s events, featuring theater and music productions, an outdoor movie, and more.
Primebank will host their 58th annual Ice Cream Social from 6-8pm at their location in Le Mars, with an evening of music, inflatables for kids, selfies, and free ice cream sundaes planned. The highlight of the Social will be the final performance of “The Noteables,” a band consisting of Le Mars Community School alumni and friends reuniting for the final time for a “Final Encore.”
Also starting at 6pm, the Le Mars Community Theatre will put on a special youth performance of “That’s Not How I Remember It” by Don Zolidis at the Postal Playhouse. Described as “a hilarious throwback to the totally rad 1980s,” this fun one-act comedy shows that the past isn’t always remembered the same way by everyone. Tickets for the performance are $3, with cash taken at the door.
Wrapping up the day is a Drive-In Movie Night at the Le Mars Chevrolet GMC, showing the Disney movie “Hoppers” starting at 8:30pm. For more information on today’s events, or for the full event schedule, visit icecreamdays.com.

Floyd Valley Healthcare accepting calendar photo submissions
Calling all photographers: Floyd Valley Healthcare is looking for photos of local scenes to be featured in their 2027 calendar.
Floyd Valley is looking for photos from Plymouth County and the Marcus area of local landmarks, nature scenes, or anything you might find to be eye-catching. Photos do not have to be recently taken. Submitted photos must be in high resolution, 300 dpi, an 8.5 x11″ horizontal orientation, and in a .JPG format. If you are taking a photo on your phone, the original, unaltered photo is acceptable, although Floyd Valley asks to please shoot in landscape and to not resize the image.
If interested, photos can be submitted to Floyd Valley by emailing ann.cole-nelson@floydvalley.org with the photo, the name of the photographer and a little bit about the shot. Submissions will be taken between now and August 7th.

New moratorium on data centers looms in Woodbury County
Woodbury County leaders are working to impose a moratorium on data centers in unincorporated areas until they can draft regulations. The issue emerged after the town of Salix voluntarily annexed 900 acres of farmland in April. Last week, MidAmerican Energy confirmed the site is being considered for a data center.
At Tuesday’s meeting, resident Janet Yanak urged the county board to pass the moratorium, even though it doesn’t have jurisdiction over the potential project.
Other neighbors of the project testified that they weren’t notified of the annexation, and supervisor Mark Nelson responded.
Supervisors plan to put the moratorium on next week’s agenda and ask the county attorney to look into whether Salix leaders correctly followed state law. The board supports a one-year moratorium on data centers to gather public input on an ordinance to regulate them. Meanwhile, Salix would still need to rezone the property for the project to move forward.
