The Remsen St. Mary’s football team had a rare setback in 2025 suffering a losing season with a record of 3-5. This year, the Hawks are looking to right the ship and bring the program back to the level of success they have enjoyed in years past.
The Hawks will get a chance to start that in week zero with a home game against Ar-We-Va. With the early game, the practices also began earlier for the Hawks who could begin practicing right after dead week. Head coach Tim Osterman says that change in schedule was not too much of an adjustment, and he feels the guys have put in the work necessary to be ready for the first game.
Last year was a disappointment in many ways. The Hawks suffered their worst season since 2015 and had to forfeit the second half of their game against St. Edmond and the entire Kingsley-Pierson game. In spite of that, Coach Osterman says the experience all of his young players got last year is paying off heading into this season.
With that experience from last season, Coach Osterman says things offensively look much cleaner than they did at this point last year.
One of the many glaring weak points for the Hawks last year came on the defensive side where Remsen St. Mary’s did not force many turnovers all season. In fact, the Hawks did not have an interception the entire season. Coach Osterman says that has to change this year.
A downside to some of the forfeitures in Remsen St. Mary’s schedule last year is that the Hawks will only play three home games this season instead of four. Those three home games are all front loaded, meaning the Hawks will be on the road for their final five games of the season. Coach Osterman says he cannot change the situation his program is in, so he is choosing to make the best of what they have.
The Hawks open the season with Ar-We-Va on Friday night in Remsen. Coach Osterman says both teams are in the same boat with not much film to go off of, so a lot of the focus is making sure his team plays some clean football.
