Remembering 9-11 Terrorist Attacks
Today (September 11th) marks the 25th Anniversary of the 9-11 terrorist attacks. Retired Le Mars Fire Chief Dave Schipper was one of 17 Northwest Iowans who went to New York one year after the World Trade Center attacks. Schipper, at the time, was a State Fire Marshall Investigator/bomb technician living in Spencer. He, along with firefighters from Le Mars, Sheldon, Orange City, and Sioux Center, made the trip to New York to attend the funeral for the 343 firefighters that were initially lost.
Schipper said that miraculously the church near Ground Zero survived.
Schipper has returned to New York four more times since that initial visit and says each trip helps give him closure.
He hopes the country never forgets what happened on that day 25 years ago.

Weber Windmill ribbon cutting

On Wednesday at 4 p.m. the Plymouth County Historical Museum hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly restored Weber Windmill. Norman Weber donated the windmill to the museum in 1992, and a group of volunteers restored it at the end of this summer.

Norman’s grandson, who shares his name, reflected on the earlier days of the windmill.

Weber says the restored windmill looks even better than it did originally.

The restored windmill is chain-wrapped to prevent the structure from moving, which Weber said was similar to how it was on the farm.

Weber repeatedly praised the work done by the volunteers on the restoration.
