Carroll County plane crash

LIDDERDALE, Iowa (AP) Authorities say two people died in an airplane crash near Lidderdale in western Iowa.

The Carroll County sheriff’s office says the single-engine plane went down in a farm field about 5:40 p.m. on Sunday. The bodies were taken to the state medical examiner’s office in Ankeny for identification.

KCCI-TV of Des Moines says witnesses reported hearing the plane’s engine sputtering.

The plane crashed about three miles from an airport in Carroll. It was not immediately known if the plane had taken off from the airport or was attempting to land when it crashed.

The sheriff’s office released no additional information Monday morning.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating.
