MONDAY RESULTS – June 28

Le Mars (11-11/6-5) 16 Emmetsburg 0, 5 innings

Gehlen (13-11/9-8) 5 Remsen St. Mary’s 4

(EMMETSBURG) — The Le Mars Bulldogs had themselves some fun on the road Monday night, thundering to a 16-0 Lakes Conference baseball victory in Emmetsburg.  The game ended after five innings on the ten-run rule.  Keaton Rowe led the offense with a pair of grandslam homers and eight RBI’s.  The Bulldogs scored nine runs in the third inning and another five runs in the fifth.  Chris Eckstaine and Austin Homan combined on a one-hit shutout.

(REMSEN) — Gehlen knocked the Remsen St. Mary’s Hawks out of a share of the War Eagle Conference lead Monday night with a 5-4 upset in Remsen.  Mitch Christoffel had a two-run first inning double and later added a solo homer to stake Gehlen starter Tyler Meyer to a 3-0 lead.  The Jays built a 5-1 lead before a three-run fifth inning by St. Mary’s closed the gap to 5-4.  Freshman Michael Whitehead came on in relief in the fifth with the bases loaded and struck out Zane Schroeder to end the threat.  Whitehead closed out the victory with 2 1/3 innings of hitless, shutout relief to get the save.

(#2-2A) Emmetsburg 6 Le Mars (20-10/6-5) 2

(#13-1A) Remsen St. Mary’s 8 Gehlen (16-16/10-7) 4

(EMMETSBURG) — Lakes Conference leader Emmetsburg took advantage of five Le Mars errors to beat the Lady Bulldogs 6-2 Monday night in softball action at Emmetsburg.  The E-Hawks avenged a 2-0 loss to Le Mars in early June.  Jordan Heidebrink threw a five-hitter for Le Mars but the errors led to six unearned runs.  Emily Anderson led the Lady Bulldogs seven-hit attack with two hits.  Kirsti Ruhland had a two-run homer for Le Mars in the fourth inning to temporarily give the Lady Bulldogs a 2-1 lead.  The E-Hawks scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth and were never headed again.

(REMSEN) — Remsen St. Mary’s beat Gehlen for the third time this summer and the second time in three days, winning 8-4 Monday night in a War Eagle Conference matchup in Remsen.  Steph Rohe had three hits for Gehlen.

 

TUESDAY RESULTS – June 29

Gehlen (14-11/10-8) 12 West Sioux 4

(HAWARDEN) — Gehlen sent twelve batters to the plate in an eight-run seventh inning Tuesday night, snapping a 4-all tie enroute to a 12-4 victory over West Sioux in War Eagle Conference baseball action.  Michael Whitehead was the leading hitter with two hits for the Jays.  Aaron Schlesser threw a three-hitter with three walks and seven strikeouts.  One of the hits was a three-run homer in the second inning to stake West Sioux to an early 3-0 lead.

West Sioux 4 Gehlen (16-17/10-8) 2

(IRETON) — West Sioux beat Gehlen 4-2 Tuesday night in War Eagle Conference softball in Ireton.  The Lady Jays were checked to five hits with Steph Rohe collecting three of those hits.  Rohe also had a RBI.  Lexi Wiltgen was roughed up for eight hits and took the loss.

 

 

WEDNESDAY RESULTS – June 30

Spirit Lake 11 Le Mars (11-12/6-6) 4

Unity Christian 14 Gehlen (14-12/10-9) 11

(SPIRIT LAKE) — Spirit Lake took advantage of six Le Mars errors to score eight unearned runs and beat the Bulldogs 11-4 in Lakes Conference baseball play Wednesday night in Spirit Lake.  The Indians erased a 2-1 deficit with a six-run second inning and were never headed.  Mike Ahlers cut into a 7-2 deficit with a two-run homer for Le Mars in the fourth inning but that was as close as the Bulldogs could get.  Winning pitcher Mitch Peschon homered to lead off a three-run sixth inning that sealed the visitors fate.  Peschon scattered seven hits and struck out nine.  Eric Havey drove in the first two Le Mars runs with a second inning single.

(LE MARS) — Unity Christian nearly blew an 11-0 lead before holding off Gehlen to win 14-11 in War Eagle Conference baseball action Wednesday at the Riverview Complex.  The Jays rallied to within 11-7 before falling behind 14-7 going into the seventh.  The Jays scored four runs in the seventh but the game ended with a bases-loaded doubleplay.  Shaun Ryan had four hits and two RBI’s and Mitch Christoffel had three hits, including two doubles, and a RBI.  Michael Whitehead drove in a pair of runs with two hits.  Blake Wiltgen had his first bad outing of the summer, lasting just 1 1/3 innings to take the loss.

Gehlen (17-17/11-8) 11 Unity Christian 8

(SPIRIT LAKE) — Home runs by Jordan Heidebrink and Erin Kommes helped power the Le Mars Lady Bulldogs to a 13-5 Lakes Conference softball win at Spirit Lake Wednesday night.  Heidebrink’s two-run homer followed a RBI single by Emily Ellefsen and a two-run double by Kirstie Ruhland in a five-run first inning.  Kommes socked a three-run homer in the sixth to cap the scoring.  Le Mars had 14 hits with Emily Anderson and Kirsti Ruhland getting three each.  Heidebrink had four RBI’s.  Heidebrink scattered nine hits to get the win in the pitching circle.

(LE MARS) — The Gehlen girls evened their record at 17-and-17 with an 11-8 victory over Unity Christian Wednesday night at the Riverview Complex.  The Lady Jays are 11-and-8 in the War Eagle Conference.  Lexi Wiltgen and Allison Schnepf combined on a three-hitter for Gehlen.  Sarah Jentz paced the offense with three RBI’s on two hits.  Steph Rohe and Rachel Tilley also had a pair of hits for the Lady Jays.

 

 

THURSDAY RESULTS – July 1

Sheldon 17 Le Mars (11-13) 14

(LE MARS) — For the tenth time this summer Le Mars has had a team score in double digits against them as the Bulldogs continue to struggle in the pitching department in 2010.  Sheldon used a seven-run first inning as a springboard to a 17-14 victory in Le Mars Thursday night.  The Bulldogs scored in every inning and had drawn to with 14-13 going into the seventh inning.  Sheldon then tacked on another three runs while Le Mars could only answer with one run in the bottom of the seventh.  Le Mars outhit the Orabs 17-to-10.  Keaton Rowe belted his fourth home run of the season and had four hits.  Eric Havey also had four hits while Jeremy Bohlke and Chris Eckstaine had three hits each.

Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn 12 Gehlen (17-18/11-9) 1, 5 innings

(LE MARS) — Kirsti Ruhland followed a two-run double by Emily Ellefsen with a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to bring an end to a 14-3, ten-run rule victory over Sioux Center Thursday night.  Ellefsen finished with three hits and five RBI’s and Ruhland had three hits and four RBI’s.  A six-run second inning helped the Lady Bulldogs to an early 10-3 lead.  Erin Kommes got the pitching win, allowing four hits, one walk and six strikeouts.

(LE MARS) — Kayla Foresman threw a two-hitter to pitch Marcus/Meriden-Cleghorn to a 12-1, five-inning War Eagle Conference softball win over Gehlen Thursday night at the Riverview Complex.

 

FRIDAY RESULTS – July 2

Gehlen (15-12/11-9) 13 Remsen-Union 3, 6 innings

Le Mars (12-13/7-6) 8 Spencer 4

(LE MARS) — Devin Groenhagen drove in four runs on three hits and winning pitcher Mitch Christoffel added three RBI’s to lead Gehlen to a 13-3 War Eagle Conference baseball win over Remsen-Union on Friday night.  The game ended on Groenhagen’s two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth inning to complete a ten-run rule verdict.  Groenhagen and Christoffel both had two-run singles to key a six-run fourth inning.  A baeses-loaded walk to Tyler Meyer broke a 2-2 tie to open the fourth inning scoring before Groenhagen and Christoffel’s hits broke the game open.  The final run came home that inning when Christoffel got into a run down between first and second base.  The Jays scored four runs in the sixth, the first two coming on Michael Whitehead’s two-run single.  Groenhagen then lifted a two-out flyball to center field that the Rockets’ Jake Scheitler lost in the twilight sky and it fell in for a game-ending triple.  Brian West drove in two runs for R-U on a single and homer.

(LE MARS) — Le Mars completed a sweep of their season series against Spencer with an 8-4 win Friday night at the Bulldog Complex.  Bryce Dahm and Eric Havey had two hits and two RBI’s each to back a complete-game pitching performance by Judd Herzberg.

Le Mars (23-10/8-5) 12 Spencer 0, 3 innings

(LE MARS) — Gehlen returned to the win column with an 8-3 War Eagle Conference softball win over Remsen-Union Friday night at the Riverview Complex.  No other details were available from coach Hatting.

(LE MARS) — Le Mars scored ten runs during a 13-batter third inning and make quick work of Spencer, winning 12-0 in three innings in Lakes Conference softball action Friday at the Bulldog Complex.  The game ended on the 12-run rule.  Jordan Heidebrink threw a three inning no-hitter for Le Mars with no walks and three strikeouts.  Emily Ellefsen led a ten-hit attack with two hits and three RBI’s.  Emily Anderson and Natalie Miller also had two hits.  Four Spencer errors led to all twelve runs for Le Mars being unearned.
