Sioux Pharm Receives USDA Grant

(Sioux Center) — An anaerobic digester in Sioux Center is the recipient of a USDA Rural Development loan.  Sioux Pharm will receive a $263,250 grant and the same amount in a guaranteed loan to assist with installation costs of a methane digester at the company’s facilities.  American State Bank of Sioux Center assisted with the loan guarantee.  Sioux Pharm’s digester will reduce the amount of purchased electricity used by the company, as well as save the company in trucking, sewer, and gas expenses by using as many as 20,000 gallons per day of wastewater product.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) – Sioux City officials have denied accusations that two officers mistreated a woman during an arrest.
Footage from a patrol car’s dashboard camera shows the officers struggling with 34-year-old Dacosta Daniels as she was handcuffed on Aug. 8 after a traffic stop.
Daniels says she received a black eye and bruises and is considering a lawsuit. On the tape, she is shown being punched in the side and put in a headlock.
Sioux City Police Department spokesman Jeremy McClure says that he couldn’t elaborate on what the video showed. McClure says an internal investigation found that the officers had followed department policies.
Court records say Daniels was being arrested on suspicion of punching an officer before the arrest.

All applications must be typewritten.  Organizations receiving Convention and Visitor’s Bureau funding cannot request additional funds from the LeMars City Council.  Since the incorporation of the five percent hotel/motel sales tax in LeMars, more than $978,000 in grant funds have been awarded to a variety of projects.  Lingren says a few cents over the course of time really add up to major dollars.  She says it is not just the motels and hotels that benefit from this tax, but rather all type of businesses.
