(Le Mars) — Lundell Plastics of Odebolt, Iowa, manufacturer of premium plastic auger flights, has donated a model grain elevator complete with augers and a grain elevator leg to the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee. The mini grain elevator will be a featured attraction and exhibit inside the famous round barn located at the Plymouth County Fairgrounds. The grain elevator and grain distribution system will be a part of the “aROUND the farm in the BARN” agriculture education exhibit.
Cole Sitzmann, Vice president of the Le Mars Area Chamber of Commerce Ag Committee said, “The Le Mars Area Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Committee is extremely grateful to Vance Lundell and the entire staff of Lundell Plastics for creating this exhibit”. Sitzmann said, “This exhibit will most definitely attract children of all ages. One of the goals for the Le Mars Area Chamber Agriculture Committee is to offer ‘hands-on’ interactive displays. When people have the opportunity to interact with the various exhibits, they retain the information, and have a better understanding and appreciation for agriculture, and this display accomplishes that goal.”
Vance Lundell, president of Lundell Plastics said, “We are an agricultural-based manufacturing company, and we are proud to work with the Le Mars Area Chamber Agriculture Committee in creating this educational exhibit. The display is durable and safe for children, and we believe children will find the exhibit to be a lot of fun. It is important that today’s children have an understanding and appreciation for agriculture, and this exhibit is one way we can accomplish that goal.” Lundell also said, “It is nice to see the Le Mars Area Chamber of Commerce offer an agriculture education exhibit in the famous historical round barn, and we at Lundell Plastics are proud to be included, and play a role in the exhibit”.
Much like a grain elevator and distribution and storage system found on many Plymouth County farms, the model grain elevator display shows how grain is moved through a series of augers and conveyors. The exhibit features two augers about nine feet in length, and a vertical elevator with transparent plastic windows allowing children to witness how augers are used to move grain. The augers and the vertical grain elevator are equipped with manual controlled hand cranks allowing children to operate the grain elevator system.
The model grain elevator is located on the upper level of the famous round barn, and is a part of the “aROUND the farm in the BARN” agricultural education exhibit that will be featured during the Plymouth County Fair scheduled for July 27 – July 31.
