Chamber of Commerce Trick or Treat Event Scheduled For Saturday Afternoon

(Le Mars) — Halloween is Sunday, but the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring its own Trick or Treat activity for Saturday afternoon.  Lori French serves as the Le Mars Chamber of Commerce Main Street Director and says there are a few changes to this year’s activity.

French says the youngsters will also want to stop by the Le Mars Public Library, as well as the Le Mars Arts Center.

The Le Mars Main Street official reminds us of the pumpkin races to take place earlier Saturday morning at Total Motors.

French says the Chamber of Commerce is also sponsoring a costume contest for those youngsters participating in the annual Trick or Treating activity.  Contestants need to submit a photo to the Chamber of Commerce.

Remsen’s Chamber of Commerce Trick or Treat activity is scheduled for this afternoon, Friday, October 29th beginning at 3:30 p.m.  Remsen will also hold its city-wide trick or treating event tonight, Friday, October 29th.  Le Mars will hold its city-wide trick or treating event on Sunday evening, Halloween night.  Le Mars Police Chief Kevin Vande Vegte wants everyone to be thinking about safety.

Vande Vegte reminds the trick or treaters to always cross the street at a lighted crosswalk, and to have either reflective tape, a glow stick, or carry a flashlight.  The Le Mars Police Chief reminds trick or treaters to only stop at homes you know, and to only stop at those homes with a porch light that is on.

Governor Signs Vaccine Mandate Bill

(Des Moines, IA) — Governor Kim Reynolds signed the bipartisan vaccine mandate bill passed in the special legislative session that was called to vote on the redistricting plan. Reynolds calls the bill “a major step forward in protecting Iowans’ freedoms and their abilities to make healthcare decisions based on what’s best for themselves and their families.” Workers may claim a religious or medical exemption from a private employer’s COVID vaccination mandate, without a doctor or cleric signing off on the document. They can also receive unemployment benefits if they are fired for not getting vaccinated. The governor in her statement on the bill says it is only the first step and they will be taking other legal actions against the Biden Administration’s vaccine mandate.

LIHEAP Sign Up Begins Monday

(Undated) — The application period for the state’s Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) begins on Monday. Iowa Utilities Board spokesman, Donald Tormey, says the program provides a payment to help you with part of your heating bills. He says it is not a free ride and you are encouraged to pay something toward your utility bill in addition to any LIHEAP (Leye-heep) assistance you receive. Tormey says if you are behind on your bill, you should always reach out to the utility company first and talk about those options. He says you can sign up for LIHEAP anywhere in Iowa through your local community action agency.

Pheasant Hunt Begins Saturday

(Undated) — Pheasant hunters will hit Iowa’s fields Saturday morning at 8 o’clock to kick off the 2021 season. D-N-R wildlife biologist, Todd Bogenschutz (BOhG-en-shuts) is predicting a busy morning as the forecast calls for a sunny fall day for much of the state. He says the hunter numbers have been the highest they’ve been in years partly due to COVID. Bogenschutz says hunters cold take 100-thousand birds by the time the season is over.

State of Iowa joins lawsuit challenging vaccine mandates for workers employed by a federal contract

DES MOINESGovernor Reynolds announced on Friday that the State of Iowa has joined nine other states in a lawsuit challenging President Biden’s vaccine mandate for all workers employed by a federal contractor, which is one-fifth of the nation’s workforce
Today, I’m announcing that the State of Iowa is joining a federal lawsuit to challenge President Biden’s unprecedented use of the government to force every employee of every federal contractor in America, including thousands of Iowans, to take a vaccine against their wishes.

“I believe the vaccine is the best defense against COVID-19, but no one should be forced to choose between making a living or standing up for their personal beliefs. As long as I am governor, the State of Iowa will always stand alongside Iowans and to be sure their freedoms are protected.
