The Kingsley-Pierson softball team lost their matchup with Bishop Heelan at Historic Hubbard Park on Friday night by the score of 4-1.
The matchup marked the first time in recent memory that the Panthers and Crusaders connected on the softball diamond. The clash of a small school and big school most of the time goes for the bigger entity. Kingsley-Pierson co-head coach Michelle Seglem says it was good for the girls to see some tough competition.
With the disadvantage of school size, the Panthers still held tough with the Crusaders for most of the game keeping it scoreless early then hanging around at 2-1 for a few innings. Coach Seglem says the Panthers just did not catch enough breaks to come out on top.
Julia Howe was the one to make things happen at the plate for Kingsley-Pierson going 3-3 with a double, and she scored the only run of the night for the Panthers. Coach Seglem says all the work she has put in is paying off late in the season.
The Panthers enter the final week of the regular season with a 15-7 record. They will not be taking things likely in their final few tune-ups before the tournament begins. Coach Seglem says finding the right combination of players and positions will be key for this final week of regular season competition.
Kingsley-Pierson is back in action tonight with a non-conference matchup with River Valley.
