The Le Mars Willow Creek Golf Course remains closed following last week’s flooding.

Golf Course Manager Brian Schultz says this year’s flooding was different than in 2024.

 

Schultz talked about the work that is being done to re-open the course.

 

Schultz says he hopes the course can re-open by mid-week in time for league play.

The Iowa Finance Authority and Iowa Economic Development Authority has named Sioux Center as a 2026 Iowa Thriving Community.  This initiative recognizes communities that are proactively addressing workforce housing needs.  Selected communities demonstrate best practices in planning, financial support, targeted development,  leadership, and employer engagement. They also invest in broader community assets like public health and the arts.

The other communities named for this designation include Clear Lake, Ottumwa, Urbandale, and Waukon.  They will be recognized at the Housing Iowa Conference in Cedar Rapids September 2-4.

The Marcus Community Fair Opens Thursday of this week, marking 89 years of tradition, celebration, and community spirit.  This year marks the 41st consecutive year of free gate admission, made possible through a combination of community fundraisers, county and state support, grant funding, and the generosity of local sponsors.

This year’s schedule includes the crowning of Little Miss Marcus on Thursday at 6 p.m. and the 2025 “Babies on Parade.”  There will be the cornhole classic tournament Friday starting at 5:30 p.m., a 5K Run/ 1 Mile Walk on Saturday at 8 a.m., and the Youth Parade Saturday at 12 noon to name just a few of the events,

The fair also features livestock shows, BINGO, musical entertainment, and food. McDermott Family Shows will be there with their carnival.

The Marcus Community Fair will be held Thursday through Sunday.
