“The Gilded West” comes to the Le Mars Arts Center

Tickets are on sale for the Le Mars Arts Center’s annual fundraiser. “The Gilded West” will take place Saturday, February 14th at the Garage at 800, located on Prospect Street SW in Le Mars.

Speaking on KLEM’s What Now show, Draeven Haefs, the executive director of the Arts Center, says the event will take on a cowboy theme with barbeque on the menu and many interactive events.

 

Haefs says the evening is a major fundraising event for the Le Mars Arts Center.

Local businesses invited to attend Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program

The Le Mars Business Initiative Corporation is inviting small business owners and lenders to an informative session on the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Program — a nationally recognized initiative designed to help small businesses grow, scale, and succeed.

The event itself will take place on Wednesday, February 4th inside of the Wells Visitor Center and Ice Cream Parlor. Attendees will learn about the program’s benefits, structure, and how it can provide access to valuable resources. Small business owners interested in growth, local and regional lenders supporting small businesses, and Le Mars Chamber of Commerce members are encouraged to attend. Complimentary lunch will be provided.

Plymouth County Democrats hold monthly meeting tonight

The Plymouth County Democrats will hold their regular monthly meeting tonight, with a guest speaker in attendance.

The meeting will take place at 6pm at Lally’s Eastside Restaurant in Le Mars. Attendees will hear from Ashley WolfTornabane, a Democrat from Storm Lake who’s running for Congress in Iowa’s 4th congressional district. A food drive and Day of Service will also be held in honor of MLK Day.

All interested Democrats are invited to attend, and can arrive early at 5:30pm to eat with the group.

Floyd Valley Healthcare to offer cholesterol, diabetes screenings next month

Floyd Valley Healthcare has announced they will sponsor community cholesterol and diabetic screenings at three local sites during the entire month of February, in conjunction with National Heart Month.

Screenings will be available in Le Mars, Remsen, and Marcus during February. In Remsen and Marcus, screenings will be located at the Floyd Valley Clinics from Monday to Thursday, while screenings in Le Mars will be at the west entrance of the Floyd Valley Clinic Lab from Monday to Friday. All screenings require an appointment. Participants will receive a total blood cholesterol and a blood glucose test for $20. A 12-hour fast is required prior to testing, as is a 24-hour abstinence from alcohol. Results can be accessed through the patient’s online portal.
