Le Mars Community senior Jenna Fisher finished her state tournament with an eighth-place finish for the second year in a row on Wednesday in Waterloo.
In the preliminary round, Fisher bowled a 664 for her three-game series which was good for sixth out of the 32 bowlers. Fisher says her shot was dialed in leading to such a high score early on.
Going into the bracket portion can be a daunting task since each round is a one-game match. Fisher says competing in the bracket at the state tournament last year prepared her well for what to expect this year.
In the quarterfinal round, Fisher went up against the third seed out of the qualifying round. She unfortunately lost that matchup 224-181. It was a strong game for Fisher after struggling out of the gate in the first three frames. She says that slow start doomed the rest of the game.
In the consolation semis, Fisher went up against the two seed and lost that matchup 238-211. In the seventh-place match, Fisher had to compete against the top seed and lost that matchup 190-169. Everywhere Fisher looked there was a good bowler waiting for her. She says competing against good competition is tough, but she reminds herself that she is in these competitions because she has proven she is as good as they are.
The eighth-place finish concludes Fisher’s high school bowling career on another strong note. She says the bowling program at Le Mars taught her great lessons of teamwork and helped her meet some great people.
Fisher will be heading to the University of Sioux Falls next year and will not be bowling as the school does not have a bowling team.
