Akron-Westfield senior Swancutt qualifies for state bowling for the third year in a row

Akron-Westfield senior bowler Matthew Swancutt found a way to continue his bowling career finishing eighth in Le Mars on Monday and qualifying for the state tournament for the third year in a row.

The consistency the West Sioux/Akron-Westfield/MOC-Floyd Valley bowling program has shown this season helped provide the opportunity for Swancutt. He says making state three years in a row shows the level this program has reached.

Swancutt bowled a 610 score which came with 206, 193, and 211 games. Swancutt says his calm demeanor helped him score just enough to qualify for state.

This state tournament will be special for Swancutt who is not going alone this year. Teammate Ryne Brummel qualified for state finishing second in Le Mars with a 662. Swancutt says getting to share this moment with a teammate is something he has always wanted.

With Swancutt qualifying for state twice before, this third time qualifying means he is an old hat at competing in Waterloo. He says he has learned from his last two trips and knows what has to happen to perform well.

Swancutt and Brummel will compete at the state tournament on Wednesday, February 25 in Waterloo.
